Michael Bonello has a unique social media plan. The 61-year-old owner of skylight and ventilation company Skydome wants to rejuvenate Sydney’s Waratah Festival. The festival, which took place in late October and early November, and ran from 1956 to 1973, was superseded by the Sydney Festival.

“I wouldn’t mind promoting a drive to get the Waratah Festival rejuvenated. It could form part of my social media offering.”

About seven or eight years ago, Bonello bought the rights to a number of domain names, including waratah.com.au. He wants to use the name for this project, stating it would benefit the wider community and his business.

“You’re doing something that’s not really related to your company but if it’s giving some sort of return to the population and you don’t make a big loud noise . . . but doing it in a subtle fashion, a company can reap the benefits,” Bonella says.
